Hydromer® Medical Device Coatings

Hydromer offers a wide range of medical device coatings and services, including contract coatings, R&D, and testing.

Hydromer offers a line of advanced, custom medical device coatings to enhance the performance of your devices. Our extensive inventory comprises over 100+ customizable offerings to meet your unique needs. All of our coatings are customizable. This means we can develop a coating to meet your specific product needs.

Below is a brief overview of our medical device coatings

1. Hydromer® Hydrophilic Medical Device Coatings

Hydromer has decades of experience in developing custom hydrophilic coatings for medical devices. As such, we are proud to be a trusted partner to many of the world’s largest medical device companies.

Our hydrophilic medical coatings can be applied to the outer and inner surfaces of a wide range of medical devices. They offer superior lubricity, cell growth enhancement, low particulate, enhanced adhesion, and antimicrobial properties.

What sets us apart from other coating companies is our support services. You will have access to our team’s expertise of FDA, ISO, and other medical regulations around the world. As such, you will have the products and knowledge needed to bring your product to market.

2. Hydromer® Thromboresistant Coatings

Thrombosis, or the formation of blood clots is a common problem caused by medical devices inserted into the vascular system.

Hydromer has a full offering of customizable Thromboresistant Coating Products. In addition, we have recently launched HydroThrombX™, a next-generation NMP-free anti-thrombogenic coating to reduce blood clotting that leads to atrial fibrillation, strokes, or even heart attacks.

Our thromboresistant coatings are “slippery when-wet” and are non-leaching. Such properties help medical devices reduce platelet adhesion and cell mitosis, eliminating the risk of restenosis.

3. Hydromer® Cell-growth Enhancing Coatings

Hydromer’s cell-growth-enhancing coatings are formulated to encourage cellular attachment. We have mastered the technology of enhancing wound healing and cell repair. Our coatings are more biocompatible and designed to improve the adhesion and proliferation of fibroblast and endothelial cells.

4. One-Step Coatings and Primers

In addition, we offer both one-step coatings and primers to help make coating your devices easier.

One-step, hydrophilic coatings make the process of coating multiple substrates easier and more cost effective. Enjoy an easier, faster coating process and eliminate the need for multiple-step coatings.

Hydromer Primers help prepare substrates for better adhesion and more effective coverage.

Hydromer Contract Coating Service

We understand the importance of selecting the right coating and coating application method for your project. A lot goes into proper coating application, from surface/substrate preparation and coating viscosity to carefully anticipating the complexity of the parts to be coated. There are a variety of factors that play a crucial role in ensuring the performance and success of both the coating and the object being coated.

At Hydromer®, we leverage our decades of experience and access to advanced coating technologies to coat prototypes and finished, market-ready devices. We excel in manually or automatically coating medical devices and industrial goods with unique geometries. We have in-house application equipment, including those used for dip, spray, spin, flow, and our proprietary meniscus application method.

Coating Methods

Our company specializes in dip, spin, spray, flow, and meniscus coating methods. Each one has a direct effect on the performance and success of both the coating and the object being coated.

  • Dip: The entire substrate is dipped (immersed) into a liquid polymer.
  • Spin: The coating is deposited at the center of the substrate and rotated at high speed using Spin Coater. A thin film is formed on the surface of the substrate by centrifugal force.
  • Spray: Liquid coating is atomized using compressed air, which then rapidly flows towards the surface of the substrate to create a thin, uniform film of coating.
  • Flow: The coating flows using (controlled) gravity to cover the entire surface of the substrate evenly.
  • Meniscus: It is our proprietary coating technique for applying uniform, high-quality thin films of polymers over the inner and outer surfaces of the substrate.
