Wettability
Term: Wettability
Category: Functional Properties of Coatings
Definition: Wettability is how well a liquid spreads across a surface. When a liquid spreads easily, it has high wettability and a low contact angle. This usually happens on hydrophilic surfaces. When a liquid forms beads and does not spread, it has low wettability and a high contact angle. This usually happens on hydrophobic surfaces. Wettability is important for adhesion, lubrication, and many medical applications.
