Corona Discharge Treatment
Term: Corona Discharge Treatment
Category: Coating Application Methods
Definition: Corona discharge treatment is a process used to improve adhesion of a coating to the surfaces. It works by using high-voltage electricity between an electrode and the material, creating ionized air called a corona. This process adds functional groups to the surface, cleans it, and slightly roughens it. This increases surface energy and allows things like coatings, inks, and adhesives to adhere better.
Example Uses: It is often used to help coatings stick to medical devices like catheters and guidewires.
