Biosensor
Term: Biosensor
Category: Medical Devices
Definition:
A biosensor is an analytical instrument that uses a biological recognition element, such as nucleic acids, cells, antibodies, and enzymes, connected to a transducer to generate a measurable signal that is proportional to the amount of a determined analyte present in the sample. Biosensors are constructed to detect biomolecules quickly, accurately, and specifically for clinical (human), environmental, and industrial settings.
Uses:
- Glucose monitoring for diabetes management.
- Detection of pathogens or biomarkers in blood, urine, or saliva.
- Drug monitoring and personalized medicine.
- Environmental monitoring for toxins or pollutants.
- Wearable health devices track heart rate, oxygen levels, or metabolic markers.
